Couplings and Doublings

2013

The exhibition title can be read both concretely and conceptually. Each work consists of two or more physically connected elements, while also establishing conceptual and imagined links to cultural, psychological, and personal experiences. Couplings and Doublings spans a wide material and conceptual field, bringing together modified objects, photographs printed on fabric, wooden structures, processed textiles, and terracotta figures. Conceptually, the works explore existential, bodily, and intersubjective relations, referencing works such as Edgar Allan Poe’s William Wilson, Alvar Aalto’s Villa Mairea, and earlier works including World of Butterflies.
